This is What They Wear in Paris When It Snows

I don’t know about you, but when it’s cold and snowy, I tend to reach for my Sorrels and a big oversized Theory sweater that’s insanely warm. But in Paris, snow and windchill doesn’t deter their style. These snaps from Paris Couture Fashion Week make me want to move to Paris just for the outfit inspiration alone (and the idea that by osmosis I will adopt the impossibly-chic Parisian style).

So I Think I Found My Wedding Dress (Kidding!), But I Did Find Some More Wedding-Worthy Dresses to Drool Over

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Elie Saab - Catwalk

Okay, so this Elie Saab haute-couture dress might be a little much if we get married in Park City (did I mention I just got engaged over Christmas or that we might get married in Park City, Utah? Oh, well, yeah so that happened. More on all that soon…). Plus, I’m not really a poufy kinda girl, but I could see how this could fulfill many a girl’s fairytale princess fantasies.

And now let’s look at the latest round of gowns from Paris Couture Fashion Week that fulfill this girl’s bridal fashion fantasies…

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Elie Saab - Catwalk

Another wedding-worthy gown with a more-me silhouette

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Elie Saab - Catwalk

Okay, I’d wear this minus the sheer.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Elie Saab - Catwalk

Perfect for my “something blue.” Love embroidery and tea-length and the blue.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Elie Saab - Catwalk

Reason enough not to go white.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Christian Dior - Catwalk

Dior’s blooming mermaid silhouette is also pretty wedding-worthy. I sorta love the subtle neon nods.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Christian Dior - Catwalk

You got the traditional skirt with a conservative neckline and t-shirt sleeve style so mom’s happy. But there’s also a modern drop-waist and a not-quite pink, not-quite purple, not-quite gray hue to make the non-traditional bride plenty to be happy about. I’m liking it a lot.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Christian Dior - Catwalk

I love tea-length. Very Audrey Hepburne. And the print is mostly-blush if you don’t count the pops of color along the bodice and hem, but hey, who’s counting besides mom?

I Want All 5 Of Her Outfits

I love Vogue.com’s feature, “Five Days, Five Looks, One Girl” that profiles what they wear at the peek of chic. I’m always inspired by what the editors of the legendary fashion rag are wearing, and their amazing accessories. The latest installment features Special Events Associate Phoebe de Croisset, whose mix of colors, patterns and textures is the perfect way to liven up your winter wardrobe.

I Want Her Closet: Elin King

Sweedish style blogger Elin Kling (check out her hugely-popular blog Style By Kling if you haven’t already) has created a fashion empire out of her blog, which chronicles here passion for style and her amazing outfits.

201209145-596x904

She co-founded her own magazine — plus, a network of style blogs that was bought by Conde-Fairchild recently and she’s gotten to design her own lines with Guess and H&M and styled a recent Tibi campaign. (Can you tell I wish I was her?) She’s got amazing style and she’s gorgeous to boot. I’d hate her if I wasn’t so obsessed with her blog — and her style.

Hit up her blog to see what she’s wearing and for daily doses of the coolest style inspiration. But here’s a peek at more of her flawless fashion editor style.

If This is The New Skirt Suit, Count Me In

The Spring/Summer 2013 Haute-Couture Collections showing in Paris right now are filled with quite the array of dream-worthy evening gowns. But Chanel, Dior and more also showed some tres chic couture styles that could work for the nine-to-five crowd too.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Chanel - Catwalk

Forget any ’80s-tinged notions of the ole skirt suit you might have in your head. The two-piece suits that Karl Lagerfeld paraded down Chanel’s haute-couture runway are so amazing, they’re making me long for a suit-required office job (well, almost).

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Giambattista Valli - Catwalk

Note: Double-breasted jackets are back in a big way but now they’ve got a much more flattering fit. I’d take this whole look by Giambattista Valli, right down to the shoes.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Chanel - Catwalk

Leave it to Karl Lagerfeld to create a work of art out of a medley of inspiration, combining a pea coat and a double-breasted jacket and adding an off-the-shoulders neckline and a drop waist to give us this impossibly chic skirt suit.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Chanel - Catwalk

Don’t tell my mom, but if I got to wear this, I’d try my very best to act like a lady. Thank you again, Chanel.

Chanel does the tweed jacket suit. Built-in sweater-tied-round-the-shoulders no extra charge.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Chanel - Catwalk

Okay, this Chanel look might be a tweed dress with faux buttons up-top, but I’m pretending it’s a suit because I love it that much.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Chanel - Catwalk

A black and white Chanel tweed suit, passed down from Grandma, will always be the pinnacle of chic — but this tweed two-piece was designed with today’s woman in mind. Some black floral lace and a modish play on proportions and you’ve got the Chanel tweed suit that I would wear now and save for my daughters later.

Pretty in pink meets the military, add a t-shirt underneath, and you’ve got a Poppy Delevigne-style Chanel suit.

20 Couture Gowns That’ll Make You Drool (I Did!)

It’s Couture Fashion Week in Paris right now, with Chanel, Dior, Versace and Giambattista Valli among the designers offering up their most dream-worthy, one-of-a-kind creations.

If you’re wondering what exactly “couture fashion week” is — and how it differs from the other fashion weeks happening in February and March — picture what you’d wear in your ultimate fashion fairytale. Or that amazing gray (or was it purple?) ball gown (you know, the one with the endless ruffles) that Carrie Bradshaw falls asleep in after moving to Paris for Alexander Petrovsky (see Season 6: Part II).

Needless to say, the couture collections are filled with fashion eye-candy (and craftsmanship) of the highest caliber. And while most of us don’t have anywhere nearly that fabulous to wear such creations to, it’s soooooo much fun to ogle over them anyway!

It was tough, but I narrowed down the couture confections to the top gowns I’d wear for my Cinderella moment in my very own fashion fairytale.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Giambattista Valli - Catwalk

Hmm … could this Giambattista Valli gown have been the inspiration behind Jessica Biel’s watercolor wedding gown?

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Giambattista Valli - Catwalk

Now these are some flowers I can get behind! Thank you again, Giambattista Valli.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Giambattista Valli - Catwalk

I’m all about embroidery these days — and three-quarter hemlines. So basically, Giambattista Valli just introduced my Spring look.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Chanel - Catwalk

This is how I do ball gowns — downplay the showstopping elegance with a casual touch (aka the t-shirt sleeve) for an effortless vibe. I could see Tory Burch wearing this Chanel gown, so maybe that’s why  I’m so into it?

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Chanel - Catwalk

Wow. Many a man has tried (sorry, dear, wonderful fiancé!), but Karl Lagerfeld may just be the only man who can make me fall for flowers. That ladylike silhouette and faux off-the-shoulder T-shirt neckline may have something to do with it…

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Chanel - Catwalk

I don’t typically like to go there, but this purple puff of perfection calls for an OMG. What I’d pay to have the chance to wear something like that. This has Diane Kruger at the Venice Film Festival written all over it.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Chanel - Catwalk

I think I’ve died and gone to couture heaven. Again, this has Diane Kruger’s lucky name written all over it.

Hello, Kristen Stewart, meet your new best friend. Chanel’s sheer gown is far more elegant than some of those see-through styles you’ve been wearing lately.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Chanel - Catwalk

I think I want to wear this to my wedding. I know Penelope Cruz is far more likely to wear this to her next red carpet event.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Chanel - Catwalk

And this is what makes Karl Lagerfeld the king of couture. Coco Chanel would be proud.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Giambattista Valli - Catwalk

A ball gown with pants? Or pants with a ball gown? I don’t know what’s going on there but I like it. The front-slit is holding strong, playing peek-a-boo with pants now instead of a mini skirt.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Giambattista Valli - Catwalk

Sheer tutus are my new thing thanks to GV. This is perfect for Hollywood’s younger set.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Giambattista Valli - Catwalk

In case you’ve tried to ignore it, like me — yellow is going to be big this spring. Now if I am subjected to the hell that is known as being a bridesmaid again, I am so requesting this dress. Brides-to-be (including moi): If you’re going to make your girls wear something pastel and girly, model it after this.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Giambattista Valli - Catwalk

The bow-embellished one-shoulder neckline is just the perfect way to wrap up this printed package.

GV’s rock candy couture has me smitten.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture

I love the almost 3-D construction of this skirt – it seems to come to life. And the black stripes create an eye-catching illusion and offset the pale pink ballet skirt to make this one of my faves from the Dior runway.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture

Um, yeah, so I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I LOVE this dress.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture

The thing about Dior’s couture collection is that, unlike Chanel, none of the pieces seem to fit together all that well. take this yellow column gown — the minimalistic design could be courtesy of Calvin Klein, but the pairing of the column silhouette with subtle architectural construction could only come from the genius that is Raf Simons, now at the helm of Dior.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture Spring 2013 - Giambattista Valli - Catwalk

Ethereal, airy with subtle sparkle and just enough volume … I’m in love with this GV look as well.

The modern girl’s ball gown. Gwyneth will likely be showing off her stems in this GV look.

What Do You Think of Gwyn P’s Matching Travel Bags?

Love Gwyneth’s whole airport ensemble — ‘cept for her matchy-match black-and-white bags. As someone who never seems to have enough room for all her carry-on crap, I’m all for doubling up on bags — just not sure if I’m into the whole matching bags thing.

But maybe I’d look a lot more put together if I coordinated my travel gear.

What do you think of Paltrow’s matching purses?

How Come I Don’t Look This Chic in Sweats?

Um, if sweatpants were in style (like to wear in public, when not on the way to the gym), I’d be the happiest person alive. As much as I LOVE fashion, I live to be comfy.

So how jealous was I when I saw Emily Blunt looking beyond chic in her airport-appropriate sweats?

The keys to pulling it off: The look is far from sloppy. Blunt sticks to fitted black sweats paired with a fitted striped sweater and cute moccasin booties and polished extras.

All in the Family: I’m Liking the Obama’s Color-Coordinated Coats

Normally I’d say kids and parents matching is never okay, even if said kids are pre-K. But I’m loving the Obama ladies color-coordinated inaugural ensembles from today. Maybe it’s because if Michelle Obama were my mom, I’d want to dress like her too.

The Obama’s color theme for this year’s inaugural festivities? Shades of blue and purple, with Obama leading the way in dark blues and her daughters lightening things up in shades of purple.

At Sunday’s swearing-in ceremony, the First Lady donned a cobalt Reed Krakoff ensemble, Malia wore a dark purple sweater dress and Sasha wore a plum lace dress (belted — just like mom).

Then today, the First Lady went with another dark blue look in a navy Thomas Browne printed coat, while the First Daughters witched up their purples, with Sasha in a violet Kate Spade coat and Malia in a more magenta-purple J.Crew coat.

Anyway, I thought all three ladies looked so modern yet appropriate — and though I’ve never been a fan of purple, the fashionable First Family just might make me one.

I mean, could these two be any cuter?

And the outfits the Obama ladies wore under their coats were just as chic — and color-coordinated. Go figure!
